PVP Mode Explanatory Notes

PvP Moveset Explanation
Bug Bite+Signal Beam and Psychic

Bug Bite is a decent move in PVP, with 3 DPT (Damage Per Turn) and 3 EPT (Energy Per Turn). It mixes best with Signal Beam (75 Power/55 Energy) due to its lower energy cost than Bug Buzz (90 Power/60 Energy) combined with how frail Butterfree is. Psychic (90 Power/50 Energy) is definitely good. It's a strong attack and Butterfree will probably be using it more often than Signal Beam due to its higher damage, even after STAB, It's also Butterfree's only non-bug charged move, and it pairs well with the double fighting type resistance that Bug/Flying brings, which can make Butterfree something of a quasi-counter to some fighting-types that don't know rock-type moves.

Confusion+Signal Beam and Psychic

This set attempts to double-down on Butterfree's double-resistance to hit Fighting-types harder. Confusion is a great move in the PVP meta, sporting 4 DPT (Damage Per Turn) and 3 EPT (Energy Per Turn), meaning it will sting a bit against anything that is weak to it, while Psychic can put the final nail in the coffin. Like the sound of this set? Thinking about maybe giving it a try? Then go look at Venomoth. It does the same thing only better, and it's STILL not great.

PvP Rating Explanation
Great League: 1 / 5

Sadly, the only league in which Butterfree stands any chance of having any utility is in the Great League, but it's entirely outclassed by Venomoth. For this reason, it really should not be used. Pick Venomoth instead.

Ultra League: 0 / 5

Butterfree has no chance of surviving in the Ultra League.

Master League: 0 / 5

Take your 100% LV40 dual-moveset legacy Butterfree and pair it with a similar Dialga, Lugia, Giratina, or pretty much any other Pokemon that are super-dominant in the Master League. Know what the result will be? You're going to lose.
